2024 WHAT IF I SURRENDER TO TIME, Durational Performance, 21 hours
This work explores the concept of “continuity,” questioning the notion of a lifetime through reflections on death, birth, and the impermanence of the human body. Through the act of irregular swinging, I seek to access a more intrinsic and free experience of time and deeper memory.
To me, the manner of a swing moving along a set path seems like constructed time, which does not give much chance for the present moment.
For this performance, I imagine time as free,
indeterministic, and oscillating unpredictably.
This perspective incorporates space as a site for contemplation.
The performance lasts for 7 hours, repeated 3 times; suffering, selflessness, and impermanence in Tibetan Buddhism, while reflects the stages of the bardo experience, guiding consciousness through
states after death toward rebirth.
